Long layers are my favorite thing to do on seniors because I hate when women come to my chair thinking they need to cut all their hair off because they are getting older. In fact, some of the most stunning hair I’ve styled have been on women in their 60’s and 70’s, and they let me play with the layers and keep it long. I have a client, Linda, who came in one day after her daughter said “mom, long hair after 60 is aging.” I said “no ma’am, we’re NOT doing that today,” and we did some face framing layers and adjusted the weight, and she cried. Long layers aren’t about looking younger, they’re about looking your best at that moment.
The styles can be as high or low maintenance as you want them to be, depending on your texture and the amount of effort you want to put in. Some of them can be wash and go styles, while others will require a round brush and ten minutes to get the desired look. None of these styles are going to keep you chained to your bathroom mirror, and they’re designed to give you flexibility. I have some favorites that I like to explain, and I’ll be honest about each one.

#1: Creamy Beige Blonde with That Effortless Soft Fringe
If you could see me now, I would say: THIS is what long layers do! The beige blonde is doing a lot of good. It is warming up the skin without being too golden or too ashy, and giving us that perfect “I woke up in the South of France” vibe. And she’s killing those layers! They’re bringing so much movement and fullness and that soft fringe is really stealing the show! It really draws the eye and accentuates the cheekbones. You’ll have to keep up with your roots to keep that color because beige blonde can go brassy, but purple shampoo really controls it between appointments!

#2 Warm Chestnut Layers with a Sneaky Root Brightening
First off, can we just take a moment to appreciate the planning and thought that has clearly gone into this color placement? The root brightening looks almost like the sun kissed your hair, but instead it helps to hide your regrowth so you aren’t stuck sitting in my chair every four weeks and freaking out about it. The layers start at the chin, so it gives a really nice effect for framing the face, and there’s internal graduation at the crown, which gives some lift where we all lose it the quickest. Here’s the very honest truth- if your hair is finer, this length may cause everything to be dragged down and you’ll lose all of that gorgeous movement. And as for those sleek, curled-under ends, that’s going to be a round brush blowout, or a quick pass with a smoothing iron. Just an FYI!

#3 Sunlit Copper with the Prettiest Feathered Ends
I enjoy seeing women in their 60s with copper tones. It enhances their entire complexion! This length reaches down to the mid back where the subtle feathered ends and face framing layers look very natural and not like someone just hacked at your layers. The soft crown lift is perfect here because it gives volume without being too overdone. However, copper is a HIGH maintenance color. The red pigments are the biggest molecules and escape the hair shaft faster than anything else so you’ll see loads of fading and even potential brassiness if you aren’t using a color depositing gloss at home. But this will definitely be worth it.

#4 Rich Auburn Layers with That Adorable Micro-Fringe
I must say, I really like the micro-fringe style. It looks so airy and wispy, while giving overall a refreshing modern look that stays in the tasteful and subtle side of the spectrum. It shows sophistication without trying too hard. The rich glossy auburn color, is a fantastic choice. Graduated color that frames the face gives an elongated look, and avoids the bulkiness of a heavy look. I also appreciate the subtle inner flip on the ends. It keeps the look polished and intentional, and makes it a lot easier to maintain. The downside to having this fringe is that you will have to put in the effort to style it daily with a blow dryer and some brushes to get it to the right position. As for the warm tones, avoid glossing it too much to maintain the depths and avoid an overall flat look.

#5 Strawberry-Blonde Warmth with Easy Root Lift
Some people might be tempted to underestimate the strawberry blonde hue on women of mature age. This hue adds a warmth to the face that brings it to life, without the high drama of a full copper or red. These layers begin at about chin level and the slide cutting gives the ends that pretty airiness that blunt cuts always cut out. The natural root shadow is brilliant because it makes your grow out look very intentional. The only issue I have with this look is if there’s any thinning at the crown it can sometimes work against you by showing it more rather than less. In that case, a good root lift mousse would be your best friend along with a low lift glaze to stop any brassiness from creeping in.

#6 Copper-Red Layers with the Most Natural Root Shadow
This is one of those cuts that can look amazing whether you blow it out or air dry it, and that is honestly pretty rare with layered cuts at this length. The copper-red is beautiful for mature skin, and root shadow provides warmth that looks like your hair grows out of your head like this which is the dream right? The short interior layers at the top give you that volume without any visible layering. I will say that copper fades really really quickly, so ask your colorist about a demi-permanent glaze and make sure they do porosity balancing to get an even color take.

#7 Crimson Layers with the Sweetest Wispy Fringe
People with green eyes usually avoid bright reds, but that’s a mistake. Look at what crimson can do! It makes hazel and green eyes shine while brown or blonde will never be able to do that. The layers here beautifully disguise light crown thinning. You wouldn’t even know there was a concern! The wispy, face-framing fringe that parts? Super flattering to the brow area and you avoid the full bang commitment. Vivid reds will also be the most high maintenance of any color family. At this intensity, grey coverage is a must which means color deposit glosses will be needed routinely, so you will need to go in quite frequently to cover grey hairs. Because of that, your colorist should use a bond-builder to protect your hair before coloring in case it’s lifted too high.

#8 Auburn Layers with That Beautiful Rounded Graduation
I love this haircut and the way the rounded face-framing graduation looks. It gives an automatic flip at the chin that grabs attention. It gives that little touch that looks like your hair has been styled with intention. The internal graduation paired with vertical slicing allows for movement throughout the hair without looking thin or choppy. This hairstyle is ideal for an oval face! Out of all shades, this one is my favorite because it is an auburn color and it doesn’t wash you out. Depending on your hair texture, you might need to slice it a bit more. The shape will stay if you do a round-brush blow-dry to it.

#9 Brushed Copper with That Crown Lift We All Want
This hair styling is great! I appreciate the soft fringe that grazes the brow and the crown lift stacking gives lift at the right places! The way the vertical point cutting adds texture without it looking stringy is also great! This style also looks good when it’s finger styled, and it also looks like it fell perfectly. I love the copper shade! I really like how warm the tone is without being too loud. The fringe will require daily shaping and I totally get that it isn’t for everyone. With coppers, glazing is a must, but that also comes with the territory.

#10 Light Copper-Blonde with the Prettiest Side Sweep
Can I just say how underrated and under appreciated this colour is? It’s warm enough to brighten everything up without being a screaming RED. More like a whisper. The side-swept bang, and those beveled flipped ends give this whole look a really polished quality that feels effortless even if there is a blowout in there. The interior point-cutting is removing bulk at the nape which is such a smart move because that’s where the heaviness hides and drags everything down. This is a great option if you want motion and softness without losing your length. Just know those flipped ends do need a round brush to happen. A clear gloss will keep brassiness from sneaking in.

#11 Brushed Bronde with a Feathery Side Fringe
I think one of the better hair color options for women over 60 is bronde. It is a more natural color that does not look overly dark or light. It is also a more costly look. With the low contrast balayage and root smudging, your grow-out will look intentional for weeks, which is a wonderful gift to your future self! I love the combination of chin to cheek face framing layers with the wispy side fringe as it is not too much, and look wonderful together. The only thing I might mention, is that if you have a natural wave, this length could make it look flat and be weighed down, so mention this to the stylist before hand. To keep your hair looking nice, an occasional gloss should do the trick!

#12 Warm Auburn with That Cool Window-Frame Fringe
“Window-frame fringe” is a super fun name for this style, as it is just as descriptive as what a window frame fringe does, it opens up your face like a window and lets all the light in! This one is brow-grazing and airy and pairs SO well with shoulder grazing auburn layers. We’ve got a small cowlick at the crown here, and rather than fighting it, the cut uses a short crown graduation to work WITH it, which I appreciate, because cowlicks will do what they want! The root-smudge is a practical touch for the low-contrast regrowth. Just know that with any fringe, there will be some maintenance in the form of trims, and warm reds will need a gloss in between visits, but that is easily manageable if you’re already in the habit of salon visits!

#13 Long Copper Layers with Effortless Face-Framing Lift
The deep side part creates beautiful natural volume and asymmetry. The long graduated layers with point-cut ends offer airy swinging movement without the weight. The red gloss really adds shine to the hair giving it a healthy and vibrant look. I must say with full length of copper, it means you’re dealing with two things at once, the color fading and the fine ends looking see-through. A color deposit gloss at home along with a round brush blow dry or a little root mouse will keep the look from the photo.

#14 Deep Auburn with Soft Graduation Around the Face
I appreciate this cut for how the graduated layers from the chin help remove weight and add movement, but still leave it looking un-layered. It’s very ‘my hair just does this’ which is the aim. The warm auburn low-lighting really enhances the skin with freckles or warm undertones by boosting what is already there. The root-smudge is clever for softening the harsh regrowth line. I will say, rich red does require a regular colour refresh. Also, if your ends are fine, they may look a little weighed down at this length, even with layering. However, this is really lovely for medium density hair with some natural wave.

#15 Voluminous Layers with Temple Feathering That Actually Works
Do you look at photos of hairstyles with volume and say to yourself, “there’s no way my hair could do that?” Well, it may not be as impossible as you think! This cut has subtle interior layering and temple feathering that creates lift at the crown, so you can avoid the use of excessive product or heat to cover up thinning at the part. This cut is definitely purposeful. The natural hair texture/ waves provide a lot of the work, and the flicked ends simply add to the overall feel of the style. If your hair is similar to the texture shown in the image, it will look great air dried like this. If your hair is fine, you will need product in order to achieve volume.

#16 Warm Copper Layers with That Perfect Feathered Brow Fringe
I’ll be honest, the best detail here has to be the feathered brow fringe. It brings so much focus to the eyes and it’s really modern and soft, not heavy or old. There’s also a subtle crown cowlick here that gives a nice natural lift and it’s just one of those great little accidents that I like to work with rather than against. The soft face framing lightening is blending grey in such a naturally beautiful way. The bright copper will need regular color refreshes though, and for upkeep you will want some root lift styling to keep the crown from falling flat in between washes. For weight distribution, ask your stylist for internal thinning and feathered ends so the weight is balanced.

#17 Natural Chestnut with That Gorgeous Lived-In Texture
A good compliment is someone saying, “Wow, she has great hair.” Great hair compliments an amazing haircut and gorgeous color. The graduated layers are long and the face framing layers look effortless and the color is sophisticated. The silver (or grey, depending on how old you are) also look fabulous, and give depth and dimension to the hair that the traditional highlights cannot replicate. The part’s position speaks to how the part is placed goes to manage the cowlick. To have that much attention to detail is the stuff that greatness is made of. This is a great haircut and an anti-frizz product on the waves will also prevent the look from being wild. A blowout also is great for keeping the crown lifted and the cut ends looking fabulous.

#18 Long Chestnut with That Pretty Inward Flip
What are your thoughts on the inward collarbone flip? It finishes off the whole cut really nicely and I find it pretty flattering! The internal soft graduation does create that effect, and I really wish more stylists would do that because it adds movement without gross, visible layers. The semi-permanent gloss is doing just about what I was hoping for; it’s evening out the warm auburn tones just right and doing a little grey masking without the commitment! I want to be honest and say the internal graduation will need a light blowout to keep that bend; it won’t do it on its own when it air dries. Also, if your stylist thins too much, the ends could look really sparse, so make sure they don’t go too crazy with that!

#19 Rich Auburn with a Sweep That Softens Everything
The graduating face-framing layers give a temple softening effect which brings a nice lift around the eyes. This is especially fabulous for ladies over 60. The inner thinning adds a nice movement while keeping the fullness, and the dimensional auburn color with root blending is gorgeous and not flat. The natural flip finish at the ends is beautiful as well. To be honest, this style does sort of require a round brush blowout every day to look nice. A light volumizing mousse is also recommended to keep the body, and some glossing is needed on the color as the auburn will begin to look dull over time. But the effort is worth it because the results will be great!

#20 Strawberry-Blonde Layers with the Cutest Rounded Fringe
I am obsessed with this shade. The strawberry-blonde color seems to be captivating as it makes me think of golden hour. The soft face-framing graduation and wispy rounded fringe create an effortless youthful appearance. The crown lift cleverly disguised early thinning. The root-melt gloss, gold under, and point-cut ends do a great job at eliminating bulk. A round-brush blow dry (or rollers!) is a must to achieve this look. The conditioning gloss will help manage porosity and will be essential to control the brassy ends on your fine strands.

#21 Warm Copper with a Wispy Center Fringe That Just Works
Center fringes can go either way, but this one has totally hit the mark. It looks soft enough to integrate easily into the face framing layers without creating a solid line on the forehead. The micro layers starting at the chin give the whole cut a really nice graduated effect, and the low contrast root shadow gives depth in all the right spots. This cut works really well if you’re working with mild crown thinning. Just keep in mind, you’ll need a light blowout or a root lift product to stop the crown from going flat. Also, copper always, ALWAYS needs glossing to prevent it from being brassy and looking bad.

#22 Long Face-Framing Waves with a Moody Root Shadow
I really appreciate what Deep Root Shadow is doing for hair because it adds a richness and dimension that is lost when using one color. The beautiful face-framing layers create a nice cascading effect with wavy hair, and the slide cutting and mid-shaft texturizing keep the medium-coarse texture from getting too heavy. The soft lowlights at the temples create the most seamless blend with silver. The length is good, but I will say that really long hair can expose thinner ends more than shorter hair, so if that is a concern, removing a few inches from the length will create a fuller look. An anti frizz styling cream and toner will be helpful.

#23 Warm Chestnut with a Brow-Grazing Fringe You’ll Actually Love
Brow grazing bangs become a love it or hate it situation, and in this case, it’s definitely a love it. The long vertical layers created from the collarbone give the style more movement and volume. What’s also super fun is the concentrated centre-part salt and pepper section that BRIGHTENS this face instead of aging it; this goes to show that strategically placed grey hair can work. The root softening lowlight blends everything in beautifully. My only caveat is that the fringe is going to require some daily shaping, a quick minute with a blow dry will do it, and if you don’t have some light internal texturizing, the length will pull the waves flat.

#24 Long Swooped Layers with a Feathered Center Fringe
What makes this cut stand out is the layered swoop detail, and the way your hair flows as one piece is stunning, and it does not look cut or disconnected. For longer inner layers, I would recommend putting a cut around 30 degrees in and do some slight razor texturizing at the ends to give it an airier feel. The feathered center fringe is soft and feels like less of a commitment while still being present enough to change the shape of your face in a really flattering way. The lowlight glazing gently hides the growth so that’s a win. I want to manage expectations because the flipped ends with a wispy fringe do typically take a round-brush blowout to look that way. It’s not a ton of effort but it is a step. With this style, the fine fly-aways at the part can be more visible.

#25 Long Silver Layers with Blowout Ends That Look Incredible
I absolutely adore this hair length and color! Nothing is more beautiful than a woman wearing her natural silver hair and sporting a cut that makes her look like a million dollars, and this is exactly that! The long layers keep the heft so you avoid that thin wispy look that can come from too many layers on gray hair, and the blowout at the edges is so airy and fun and gives her so much personality and flow to the style. Those face framing layers are super flattering too! Grey and silver hair can be more porous so if not cared for it can look really dull and even yellowish, so just a heads up! To keep the texture smooth and glossy, including a bond-repair gloss will help, and if the silver ends up feeling one note, then a subtle root shadow will help add dimension. You’ll also need a large-barrel blowout to achieve the flipped ends.

#26 Long Voluminous Layers with a Side Sweep That Frames Everything
The side sweep here creates beautiful asymmetry that really draws the eye and flatters oval faces. The loose waves are very pretty and the long graduated layers add to that texture. The shadow root with babylights looks “expensive” and gives depth to the color that is low-maintenance. The slide cutting will also keep some weight and give you movement, which is the trade-off with long hair on mature clients. It is true that some heat styling will be needed to tame the waves and some color blending here and there, but we are not talking about daily styling at all.

#27 Voluminous Layered Cut with the Sweetest Side-Swept Fringe
The natural crown cowlick is quite nice and creates the most amazing root lift without needing product and to be honest, that’s something I get unreasonably excited about. You can’t buy that kind of natural volume! A polished rounded blowout with a soft finish is always nice. The side-swept fringe is stunning and brings warmth to the face. The subtle silver at the temples is a great touch! I think it’s gorgeous and chic. It’s a low-maintenance contrast and it’s stunning instead of something to cover up. I want to be real with you that long hair on fine to medium texture can feel heavy. The layering has to be really thought out so that it doesn’t fall flat. A round brush blow dry or smoothing gloss will get you the most out of this cut. You will feel the most extra after this!

#28 Soft Ash-Blonde Layers with the Most Natural Grey Blend
The use of grey blends here looks unreal. The grey blend with the roots and the melts at the sides looks super intentional and beautiful. The cut at chest length with the face framing pieces and S-waves looks softer and classically beautiful. The slide cut along with point cut ends gives a lot of texture to the hair without it looking messy. The root smudged balayage to blend out the regrowth is so smart. Instead of fighting the natural color, you’re using it to your advantage, which is so great. The waves can look more frizzy than defined if they aren’t styled in a certain way. The ash blonde is also likely to shift warm quite quickly and will need some toning. This will mean you have a purple toning plan in addition to the required toning to keep the brass in check.

#29 Soft Feathered Layers with Curtain Bangs I’m Obsessed With
Curtain bangs and long layers will always go together. This is true for all haircuts and styles, and I will always stick by that. I think it looks beautiful how the bangs blend into the framing layers, and how it creates a seamless flow, while also softening the focus around the eyes and cheeks. Crown stacking lends added volume and lift, which is great for fine to medium hair. And if you have a mix of colors with your hair, like a subtle root shadow with some grey or white, that will blend so nicely! I can see myself cutting the ends with a point cut and doing a 45 degree elevation to really feather those layers so it all feels so airy and light. One note is that I think it is really important to communicate what you want with your stylist, since if the density is too high or too low, it can also give you the opposite of what you want. Any round brush blow out with product will give you the full effect.

#30 Long Chestnut Layers with the Cutest Wispy Micro-Bangs
Micro bangs are back and I love them on older clients. There is something fresh and fun about it! These bangs are soft enough to not feel too heavy and the off-center cowlick works to create lift. The first layers start at the chin and the point cuts add softness, while the low-contrast root blend with selective lowlight Gray coverage is more youthful without looking like you are trying too hard. The chestnut color is rich, warm and really gorgeous. Micro bangs do come with a bit of a commitment and that is styling. It will take well under 30 seconds each day to blow them dry so keep that in mind. If you have very fine hair, this length may weigh your hair down too much.

#31 Auburn Face-Framing Feathered Layers with Crown Lift
I really enjoy how the cut’s feathered layers look so beautiful and provide a light, airy feeling that I think is hard to achieve with more blunt cutting techniques. The lighter band of color at the temples subtly lifts the face. Honestly, it’s one of those little things that makes me think, “YES, that colorist really knew what they were doing!” The long internal layers and the rounded finish of the blowout create movement and polish. Given her hair’s richness of depth, it’s not going to be that the auburn color will be without glazing and regular maintenance to keep it bright; that’s just how it is. Since your hair is fine, it may become weighty as the length increases, so you’ll want to have that conversation with your stylist to determine the right balance for you. End feathering is a must for that look.

#32 Soft Face-Framing Layers with the Most Gorgeous Natural Grey
We love how natural silver strands mix with warm ash brown. It is a great example of working *with* your greys rather than against it. For this mid-chest layer, the face frame from cheekbone to chin is extremely flattering on an oval face. The interior point cutting is reducing weight where it needs to without losing fullness. The cut is managing the crown cowlick and some fine flyaway hairs pretty well. You will need some smoothing and targeted styling to keep everything cohesive, but it’s not high-maintenance. It’s a lovely ‘your hair but better’ style, and I really enjoy doing these.

#33 Warm Caramel with Face-Framing Feathered Ends That Flip Just Right
How gorgeous is the inward flip on this style! It’s all mid-length graduation with point texturing that creates that nice natural bend at the collarbone that lifts the whole jaw area. The babylights are stunning and compliment the sunlit look around the eyes. They are not foily at all! Blending with subtle grey means you’re not always working against your natural colour. This is a beautiful cut that is ‘put together’ without saying ‘high effort’. I do want to be ensure that you will need a round brush blowout or some low heat styling to keep that flip because the shape won’t happen on its own. Very fine hair may need more internal layering or a stronger colour contrast so that it doesn’t look flat.

#34 Long Copper-Red with a Wispy Blunt Fringe I’m In Love With
I find the soft wispy texture and blunt fringe combination very appealing because it looks refined and not too strict. This mid-back length hairstyle with chin graduation layering looks very dynamic. The loose natural wave with the point cuts and slide cuts/thinned layers looks beautiful. The lift at the crown is very soft and easy, which is what I look for in hairstyles in clients who want a low maintenance styles. The intense red, combined with a light sun-kissed mid band, will require glazing as well as further porosity work. You’ll need a subtle root shadow to lengthen the time between color touches because you will want it.

#35 Long Rounded Face-Framing Layers with the Most Polished Blowout Ends
The face-framing crescents starting near the cheekbones are doing what I want them to do. Softening the lower face in a very flattering manner. The internal graduation with point cut ends gives that beautiful swinging movement, while also keeping all of the length. Over-direction at the crown provides lift where we all need it, and the warm lowlights blend early greys nicely. Suits oval or heart shapes especially. I think the flipped ends will need a round brush blowout, or light smoothing to keep their shape, and very fine crowns may lose the lift by midday. For a medium density of hair, this is a very beautiful option.

#36 Warm Brunette Layers with Graduation That Starts at the Cheekbone
From the cheek rather than the chin is an excellent option because it softens the jaw line from a higher point which is very flattering cascades down effect. The straight to soft wave, medium to high density texture here means natural volume with no weight issues, which for this type of cut is an ideal scenario. I’m seeing a low-contrast root melt with fine babylights at the temples and a salt and pepper strand woven in. So natural and intentional. You gain movement and lift, plus jawline softening. The trade off is round brush blow drying and glossing to control fading on the painted highlights. The grow out is very forgiving.

#37 Rich Auburn Cascading Waves That Just Flow
When working on clients with medium to thick hair, I always say that deep, flowing waves are very easily supported with that density. They will look amazing with long layers, and the volume and movement will be something that thinner hair can never achieve. So, if you have the thickness, use it! I think the rich auburn color looks great and adds a youthful vibe. What I enjoy about this style most is how little upkeep it needs. The layers and natural texture do all the work here. I should also mention that if you want to stay this exciting color auburn, it will mean a lot of salon visits to keep it from getting muddy. Keep that in mind as you make your decision!

#38 Golden-Chestnut Waves with Side-Swept Bangs That Frame Everything
The combination of golden tones and a chestnut brown base is amazing! It gives a beautiful light reflection and adds a lot of dimension without looking too highlighted. The goal is for your hair to appear as if it has natural color variations. The side-swept bangs draw attention to the eyes and are very nice. This wave style is also very good because it creates a lot of volume, and is a great option for those with thinning hair. I’m not saying it’s a low-maintenance style because it is going to need regular color touch ups to stay fresh and those waves are going to need to help to stay defined. With that said, the best results are going to come from regular trims and color-safe products!

#39 Salt-and-Pepper Layered Flow That’s Just Stunning
Do you want to rock your natural grey? Just look at how beautiful grey hair can be! Grey and white strands create an amazing voluminous and textured mix, better than most dyed hair. It looks great! It is a shoulder length style that fully embraces the natural color transition. The only downfall to grey hair is that it can lack luster over time, but this can be easily remedied with a light volumizing product. The layers create fullness and movement. Is it high maintenance? No. Is it NO maintenance? Not really, but it is close!

#40 Deep Chestnut Smooth Layers with the Chicest Natural Greys
I believe the best way to blend natural greys is to merge them with a deeper shade instead of hiding them. Hiding them makes it look more mono-toned and less dimensional. The layers on this straight, medium density hair are smooth and create movement. They also frame the face beautifully and elegantly. Another great aspect is that the blended grey highlights means that there won’t be any salon maintenance to keep the look going! If you enjoy polished simplicity, this is a great option. I do prefer the way deeper colour shades look better when they have the right products with uplift and brightness control! This means colour treated hair needs good quality hair products.

#41 Burgundy Waves with a Modern Edge
I get that a lot of people feel nervous about burgundy. But as soon as they see it on you, they’ll think, “Why did I wait so long to get this?” It also never feels like you’re wearing something dated or something that will go out of style in the next six months. The movement and volume (soft or not) of the waves provides a look of thickness. The face framing color that you chose is going to be wonderful because the lower red tones will bring the focus to the face. It’s true that burgundy needs upkeep and maintenance on the waves, so if that’s a concern we can explore simpler options. But if you can work the burgundy, then do it!

#42 Soft Caramel Waves with Movement for Days
I love the warm caramel color on the hair. It gives a gorgeous golden hue and even makes it look healthier and more glowing. The soft layers allow for movement and add fullness without weighing the hair down, and that’s a hard balance to pull off, but this cut does it. That’s especially the case for medium density hair because it gives you the bonus of the layers without the look of thin hair. Longer hair will need more maintenance for conditioning and detangling, but beautiful hair is the ultimate goal, so it’s worth it. It frames the face nicely and everything has this nice soft touch.

#43 Golden Blonde Layers That Brighten Without Trying Too Hard
I always suggest a golden blonde for my clients who prefer a change that is a little less dramatic. It brightens a person’s face creates a delightful balance to gray hair. In the example, the layered technique provides volume for finer hair types and is just the right kind of lift and fullness so that you don’t feel like you have a ton of product in your hair. One thing I like to mention when discussing longer looks is that if you have any neck or shoulder issues, the weight of the hair may become a problem. Be sure to talk about this with your stylist because there could be a shorter option that gives you all the same benefits. This length is timeless, easy, and especially lovely for oval face shapes.

#44 Luxurious Caramel Waves with Serious Volume
Do you want volume? Because this is it. Long layers help maintain volume while warm caramel tones soften features in a flattering way. The waves are elegant and just enough. This style is one of those where it looks like you put in a ton of effort but the cut is doing the heavy lifting, which is my favorite style to give. This is perfection on medium to thick density hair because there is enough to work with and the layers really pop. The amount of wave definition and colors will require some upkeep, but it’s nothing to be scared of.

#45 Rich Auburn Waves with Side-Swept Bangs for Days
Side-swept bangs are super inviting and have a soft effect, and I genuinely believe that everyone should try them at least once. The warm waves accentuate the color auburn, and the warm layers that fall around the face create a beautiful frame which is great for heart and oval face shapes. This is a fairly low maintenance haircut in terms of daily styling. The natural volume and texture do most of the work for you, but the color is where you will have to put in some effort. Rich auburn tones change with time, so for the best color you’ll need to visit the salon to keep your color optimal. For people who want to look put together without too much effort in the mornings, this is a perfect choice!

#46 Classic Silver Length with Layers That Actually Frame the Face
I adore silver long hair with subtle layers. While long hair suggests versatility with different styles, there is a HUGE distinction between long hair and long styled hair. Additionally, silver hair is stunning and looks beautiful on warmer or more mature skin tones. It’s classy and I love it! Because of the stark difference between thick and thin hair, long hair provides a big ‘wow’ factor. And with thick hair, there is lots of potential for movement with push-back layers. I’d like to note that you will have to maintain your hair more often, especially if it’s long, because you run the risk of split ends. I find it hard to explain my aesthetics compared to one based solely on the length of your hair.

#47 Silky Chestnut Layers with Face-Framing Highlights That Glow
The face-framing highlights accentuate the cheekbones and illuminate the entire face. Plus, highlights are a good way to refresh your look without making a major change. The warm chestnut hue combined with long flowing layers adds movement and makes fine hair look denser, which is always the goal, right? This hair type is also perfect for the cut because the hair’s natural straight or slightly wavy texture will really showcase the layers. I should also mention that layered haircuts require regular maintenance to retain their shape and prevent the ends from looking straggly, so keep that in mind. This look is also really versatile; you can style it to be dressy or more casual.

#48 Rich Espresso Waves with Highlights That Add All the Depth
Espresso brown with mixed highlights gives a very classy look. There are so many different options, and this combo gives off a rich appearance. Plus, length keeping layers just below the shoulder makes this style very easy to manage. It gives that extra volume to the cut, which is a big benefit, especially with medium to thick hair. It works great for all densities. It reduces the bulk while keeping the hair full and thick. The color combination is stunning, but keep in mind, if your hair is naturally a lighter color, dark brown root touch-ups will need to be done, and I know that this may seem like a lot of work to maintain the look but I promise you it will be worth it, the finished look is so polished and timeless, it will soften your face and really step up your look.

#49 Soft Ash Blonde Layers with the Most Graceful Grey Blend
DIY blonding to mix in with your grey. Blending grey hair with ash blonde is a great way to embrace your natural hair and still have an elegant look. It gives off an intentional sophisticated vibe, while also look a little expensive. Long layers will graze your shoulders and frame your face. This look is especially great for softening stronger jawlines by drawing the eye upward. This hair style is low maintenance, as you can let it air dry, and it won’t look messy. For a more polished look, you can give it a quick blow dry. The only high maintenance part will be the hair color. As your hair grows out, you will need regular salon visits to keep it blended as natural hair and ash blonde become more distinct.

#50 Honey Caramel Blend That Brings Everything to Life
Some transformations have so much versatility and range, and I love to see how they play out! For instance, it is incredible to see someone switch their hair from natural grey to warm tones with caramel highlights! Not only does it not take away from your maturity, it ENHANCES it! The warm highlights will help your skin tones look more warm and the long layers will give a more refreshed movement style. The length is perfect to keep everything along all of the sides and remove from the overall length to give some amazing face framing for a fresh look. If I’m being honest colored hair does take maintenance to keep the brightness up and it makes the contrast with warm colors and dark roots super noticeable, especially since the before and after difference is very significant. But if you enjoy going to the salon this will be perfect for you if you want something low maintenance and active!
