Why That Girl's Hairstyle Won't Look Just as Good on You
If you meet a woman and think her hairstyle is just "perfect," don't be fooled into thinking it will also look fabulous on you just because it looks great on her.
Every hairstyle is not for every woman. You have to consider a several factors before deciding whether a hairstyle is right for you. The most important aspects you should take into account when choosing a new hairstyle is the shape of your face and size of your facial features.
Do you have a round face?
If you have a round face, your face is about as wide as it is tall with a lot of fullness in your cheek area and a small chin. A woman with a round shaped face needs to have a hairstyle which will help elongate the look of her face and not make it look any wider.
Choose a hairstyle that has fullness on top rather than on the sides. A "tall" hair style will lengthen the look of your face. Steer clear of any style that is full on the sides, particular at cheek level.
A short style with height on top and/or layered bangs is a nice choice. If you don't want to go short, a long hairstyle (longer than shoulder length) that has long layers is ideal. Steer away from short layers that frame the face near the cheeks.
Do you have a long, narrow face?
If you have a long, narrow face you want to create the illusion that your face is shorter and fuller with the proper hair style.
Select a hairstyle that is chin-length or a little shorter. One terrific choice is a flip hair style that falls right a chin level, accompanied by sideswept bangs. This will add some width to your face and not weigh down your look. Another flattering choice is a bob style that's just above the chin, along with full bangs. This style will shorten the look of your face and add some fullness.
Do you have small features?
If you have small features, you don't want a hairstyle that overwhelms the face. A short pixie cut is a nice choice. Lean toward sleek hairstyles rather than full ones. "Big hair" is definitely not a good option. Face framing hairstyles also may overwhelm your facial features. Instead select a hairstyle that pulls hair away from the face to open up your look. For small eyes, very wispy bangs will make your eyes appear larger.
Other hairstyle tips
For large features, stay away from hairstyles with a center part. For a large nose, choose fluffy, full bangs rather than wispy, layered bangs.
For a heart-shaped face (wide forehead and narrow chin), an off center part and slanted bangs will help balance your face. You should also consider a flip hair style that flips at or right below chin level.
Before your hairstylist grabs the scissors, talk with him/her in depth about what hairstyles you like. Bring photographs or tear-outs from magazines to show your stylist what you have in mind. Additionally, many websites offer virtual makeovers where you can upload your photograph and then try out several hairstyles and colors to see how they will look. |
